About the Artist
Juanda Clay bought her first camera, a Pentax K1000, all manual, in 1980. And so began her journey in nature photography.

After sharing pictures with friends for 10 years, an artist encouraged her to put her artwork “on the market”. She started selling photo note cards in local craft markets and from this, her endeavors grew over the last 20 years to include enlargements, matted prints and framed pieces. Juanda has entered several contests taking 2nd prize for her photo “Frosted Leaves” at Andover’s own Art-in-the-Park. She also won an Honorable Mention for “Trilliums” at Garden in the Woods in Sudbury, Massachusetts.

When Juanda retired, she took up kayaking which opened up a whole new vantage point for her photography. Though a challenge sometimes to keep everything still and as sharp as she did with a tripod, the rewards appeared in two of her photos entitled “Nature’s Geometrics” and “Let Go and Let God”, both taken from her kayak.

Two years ago, Juanda purchased her first Nikon camera – a luxury she has wanted all her life. Nikon cameras are the ‘gold standard’ for all photographers. Armed with this instrument that is both manual and automatic, Juanda was able to capture the detail she needed to go into pet photography as well as nature photography. Someday she may make the move to digital, but for now she is happy using “old fashioned” film!
